Overview

The Henderson Parks, Recreation and Cemetery Department will work to provide access to safe and professionally operated public parks, facilities and events. We will strive to provide quality customer service to all users while being good stewards of citizen provided and natural resources.

The City of Henderson Parks, Recreation and Cemetery Department maintain twenty four public spaces. Included in those spaces are: Atkinson Park, Newman Park, The Downtown Water Feature, Henderson Municipal Golf Course, Atkinson Pool, Fairmont and Fernwood Cemeteries, The JFK Community Center, Denton Shelter, Central Park and other parks. 
The staff of the Parks, Recreation and Cemetery Department provides a large variety of services including:
  • Litter control
  • Ground maintenance and park upkeep
  • Playground equipment upkeep
  • Pesticide/Herbicide application
  • Special event programming
  • Children’s activities
  • Swimming pool operations
  • Golf course management
  • Cemetery operations and burials
  • Event space rentals
  • City tree management
  • Parks facility repair and maintenance
  • other functions

The Parks and Recreation Board is a volunteer group that offers advice, support and suggestions to assist in the operations of the public spaces in the City of Henderson. They are appointed by the mayor and meet to assist parks staff.
