Cemetery Monument Regulations

  • All monuments in city cemeteries are considered private property owned by the family.
  • All monuments are required to have concrete foundations to prevent sinking.
  • Monuments in Sections A, B, and C in Fernwood Cemetery and sections F and G in Fairmont Cemetery shall be located on the west end of the grave space, spaces, or lot. No other monuments or markers are permitted, except a government marker provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs used as a footstone at the east end of a grave or family monument footstones.
  • A family monument, which may be erected on a full lot of six (6) grave spaces under common familial lineage, shall be located on the west end of the lot in lieu of individual grave headstones. The family monument shall not exceed nine (9) feet in length, six (6) feet in height, and shall be centered on the lot. When family monuments are erected, one (1) footstone shall be permitted at the east end of each grave space provided that the footstone shall not exceed twenty-four (24) inches in length, twelve (12) inches in width, and twelve (12) inches in height.
  • Single monuments can be a maximum of 36" wide.
  • Double monuments can be a maximum of 76" wide.
  • All monuments must be made of marble, granite, or a similar durable stone.
  • The City of Henderson does not sell, clean, or repair monuments. There are private companies in the area that provide these services. Vendors are available upon request at the office.
