City Attorney

About
The city attorney is appointed by the Board of Commissioners and provides legal counsel and representation to the board, city manager, assistant city manager, departments of city government, and city-appointed boards and commissions.

The City Attorney’s Office does not provide legal advice about personal or private problems of citizens, but can answer questions related to city activities, including interpretation of the City Code.

Duties and Powers
  • Represents the City of Henderson on all legal matters
  • Drafts resolutions and ordinances for the consideration of the Board of Commissioners
  • Drafts and reviews contracts relating to city business
  • Performs legal research
  • Issues opinions on zoning, procurement, personnel matters, and other city related activities
  • Responds to inquiries under the Open Records Act and Freedom of Information Act
  • Handles some matters of litigation, risk management, and real estate transactions
